Tracking your filings & case status

After submitting your envelope in LITEFile, you can monitor its progress through the clerk's review workflow using the My Cases / Filing Statuses dashboard.

Understanding filing statuses

When you submit an envelope, it passes through several standard stages:

StatusWhat it meansWhat you should do
Submitted / PendingYour envelope has been received by the electronic filing system and is in the court clerk's review queue. No action required. The clerk typically reviews documents within 1 to 3 business days.
Under ReviewA deputy court clerk is currently inspecting your documents, party names, and payment details.Stand by for email confirmation.
AcceptedThe court clerk has accepted your filing! A case number has been assigned (if new) and stamped copies of your documents are now official court records.Download your stamped documents for your records and serve copies on any opposing parties if required by law.
RejectedThe clerk rejected one or more documents in your envelope due to an error, missing form, signature issue, or incorrect fee code.Read the clerk's rejection explanation note, correct the specified issue, and resubmit.

What to do if your filing is rejected

If a court clerk rejects your filing, do not panic! Filings are often rejected for minor technical or formatting reasons.

Common reasons for rejection:

  1. Missing signature: A signature line on the petition or affidavit was left blank.
  2. Incorrect filing type: The document was filed under an inappropriate document code (e.g., filing a Proposed Order as a Motion).
  3. Missing supporting form: The local court requires an additional cover sheet (such as Cook County's County Division Information Sheet).
  4. Legibility or file formatting: The PDF was blurry, password-protected, or contained non-standard formatting.

How to resubmit:

  1. Open the rejected filing in My Cases.
  2. Read the exact Clerk Rejection Note explaining why the document was returned.
  3. If you need clarification on local requirements, check the court clerk contact information provided directly on the filing details screen.
  4. Correct your PDF document, start a new filing, and re-upload the corrected form.
